Devotional Thought:

Matthew 7:12 is the Golden Rule. It is also the second Bible verse that I memorized as a little boy, and in the King James, no less. To this day, when quoting it, I still quote the KJV, “Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so unto them.” On face value, this simply means, treat others as you want to be treated. This is a simple and yet profound truth. Simple because we all know how we personally want to be treated.  Profound because in our humanity, in a moment of frustration, stress, anger, fear, or even righteous indignation it is easy to treat others in a way that we do not want to be treated. At RCS, we have what we call the Golden Rule of Communication, “We will not talk about Child A with Family B, nor will we talk about Child B with Family A.” This is one of the ways we work to maintain confidentiality regarding each child, especially when it comes to classroom or campus discipline. Why? Because no parent wants other parents to be talking about his or her child. So what do we do if a student has done something wrong? We follow the three requirements of Micah 6:8, “He has told you, O man, what is good, and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Our goal for all student discipline is for the student to have a changed heart, for the student to become a person who practices the Golden Rule and treats others as he or she wants to be treated.

“Fabulous Five” As Reported By RCS Teachers:

  1. Mrs. Clausen reports, “My AP Calculus students never cease to amaze me! Lately, we have been working with another irrational number e. The beauty of e and its
derivative being congruent is a talking point to God’s beauty in Math. Ideas like e
do not happen by chance but by design and it just helps to reconfirm there is a God.”
  2. Mrs. Sommers reports, “During P.E., Mrs. Moog taught the third graders the
song, “Walking Like Giants.” The words of the song support Growth Mindset. During Chapel Mrs. Moog and the third graders taught the song to all of the students.”
  3. Mrs. Haserot reports, “In second grade, students decorated a shoe box based on a scene from their fiction book they read for their January book report!”
  4. Mrs. Bicker reports, “KB Students are beginning to learn to proofread their work and the work of their peers. They are learning to use their mistakes in their drafts
to make a better version in the next writing.”
  5. Mrs. Francis reports, “We did another STEM project. The students created chairs that had to meet specific qualifications. They had only paper and masking tape. The chairs needed to hold the weight of a stuffed animal. Every group succeeded in making a chair that met the qualifications.”

Matthew 6:9-13 – The Lord’s Prayer
“9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
