Devotional Thought:
There is an expressed command from God in this month’s theme verse that whatever you would want others to do to you, you should do it to them. But there is a principle here that goes beyond the traditional “I want people to be nice to me, so I’ll be nice to them.” The principle is that whatever is good in our lives, it is good in someone else’s too. If you have things, it is good for others to have things. If it is good for you to be saved, it is good for others also. If it is good for you to live in liberty, it is good for others as well. This “principle” of the Golden Rule sums up the intention of the passage. If you were downtrodden, would you want help? If you needed food or water, would you want aid? Of course you would. Our job is to now go and do likewise.
