Mr. Hearne’s Recommended Resources:
Children naturally trust their parents. They know that Mom and Dad are their protectors, their cheerleaders, their biggest fans. Children also turn to Mom and Dad in their moment of need and look to them for reassurance that life is going to be OK. My recommended
resources this week were picked to help parents talk with children about tragedy or disaster. Whether it be the worst shooting in the United States or fires sweeping our state, children have questions that need to be answered. My first recommended resource is, “Helping Children Deal with Tragedy,” an article filled with tips on dealing with tragedy, anger, and sadness. My second recommended resource is, “Mr. Rogers, Look for the Helpers.” This is a throwback to one of my favorite TV shows growing up. Mr. Rogers reminds us that when something tragic happens, always look for the helpers. My third recommended resource is the “Axis Cultural Translator” to help us stay up to date what is happening in our culture today.
