Ten years ago, Apple introduced the iPhone and among other changes it has ushered into homes a change to parenting. With a smartphone in their hand our children have the entire world at their fingertips. This is essentially a new frontier, one that no other group of people has ever explored, one that we as adults are still exploring. As we figure out how to live in the digital age, we must also be training our children how to properly live in the “digital world” and in the “physical world.” I like Common Sense Media’s blog post, “6 Media Resolutions Every Family Should Make in 2018,” because it’s focused upon spending time with your kids in the “digital world” and in the “physical world” in order to help train them to make wise choices. I do want to take it one step further than they did, to make wise choices that glorify God. Spending such time with our children makes Luke 6:40 a reality in their lives and trains them to make proper entertainment choices and to recognize harmful choices, such as the recent so-called detergent challenge. Check out this informative article from the Washington Post, “Teens are daring each other to eat Tide pods. We don’t need to tell you that’s a bad idea.” Unfortunately, this new terrible idea, promoted through social media, will not be the last, but we can help keep our children safe by modeling how to live a God glorifying “digital life” and “physical life.” Also, you should
