Devotional Thought:

Love is living and active, easily witnessed in a person’s life. If you want to know what a person loves, examine his/her actions. The end of Romans 13:9 states, “you shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Paul is not telling believers to love themselves here, as this is something people naturally do. People naturally love themselves with a living and active love. Just examine your own actions regarding yourself and you will see how much you naturally love yourself. Paul is saying that believers must love their neighbors just like they naturally love themselves. Romans 13:10 helps to clarify what this type of active love looks like and how it is manifested: by doing no wrong to a neighbor. The opposite of doing wrong is doing right, therefore believers love their neighbors by seeking their good, which are living actions that can be witnessed by others. In doing this, believers are being obedient to God and fulfilling His law.
