Eagles’ Art Camp

DATES: June 3-7

Description

Students will engage in various art projects including landscape paintings inspired by Artist Ted Harrison. They will learn how to use color and shapes to create a landscape. At the conclusion of the week, students will bring home their art projects and any unused supplies. Please have your child bring an old t-shirt on the first day to serve as his/her class apron.

Teacher Bio

Mrs. Becerra is a teacher at Redwood Christian MSHS with experience in art and creative crafts. She loves teaching art to students and her favorite artistic hobby is sketching mainly scenery and still life ordinary objects.

Eagles’ Beginning Band Camp

DATES: July 29-August 2
TIME: 9am-12pm

AGE: Grades 3-12

Description

Beginner campers will learn the basic fundamentals of music and their chosen instrument.  They will grow to be a part of the community and create music as a team. Students with at least 1 year of experience would be considered advanced and students with no experience would be considered beginners. 

Available instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, Bass Guitar, Percussion/Drums

Teacher Bio

A Bay Area native, Mr. Ward started playing musical instruments when he was 10 years old. He went on to UC Santa Barbara to study music performance for his bachelor’s degree. He continued further to University of Northern Iowa to complete his master’s of music performance. He taught Band at Milpitas Christian School for four years and is excited to be at Redwood Christian Schools as the Band Teacher.

Eagles’ Advanced Band Camp

Description

Students will engage in this strategic game and compete against one another. No experience required as this camp is for beginners. They will learn basic tactics and competitive perspectives. At the conclusion of the week, students compete in a tournament to test their skills against one another. Camp includes a chess workbook and take-home chess set.

Teacher Bio

Coach Chen is an experienced chess instructor who has taught chess to children of all ages. He has taught classes and camps with the Berkeley Chess School, Hayward Area Recreation Department (HARD), City of Dublin and various homeschool and church camps. In high school, he was a nationally ranked player for his age. He still plays online at chess.com where his blitz rating places him in the 99th percentile of over 6 million players. He earned his Masters Degree in Computer Science from MIT.

Eagles’ Comic Book Creation Camp

Description

Campers will learn the elements and history of comic books. They will create their own comic strip and book using their creative writing and artistic abilities.

Mrs. Amy Hickman is a current 1st grade teacher at RCS. She has taught various levels of elementary school for a combination of 10+ years. She has a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education. She has experience working with students of all ages from teaching, church leadership, youth sponsoring and more. 

Eagles’ Digital Art Camp

Description

Get excited for our summer REC digital art camp! We will be learning skills in storytelling, world building, claymation, and sound art to create individual short films with stop-motion. Ipads will be provided for students although they can bring their own tablet if desired. Tablet must be an apple ipad with app downloading capabilities for the stop-motion software we will use.  Sign up if your child wants to learn about filmmaking and storytelling at our one-week digital art camp.

Eagles’ Flight Science Camp

Description

Campers will learn the principles of flight and its terms (thrust, lift, gravity, drag, etc.). They will also create “all” things that fly (i.e.: paper airplanes, kites, parachutes).

Eagles’ LANDO LEGO Engineering Camp - CLOSED

Description

LANDO’s LEGO Engineering camp will teach students how to design, prototype, and test solutions to real world engineering problems. Each day will consist of one LEGO engineering challenge (e.g., durable domes that can support heavy weights dropped on top, catapults that can hurl a foam ball, trains that can transport cargo around a track) and a design activity that uses 3D pens or other materials to unlock our students creativity. 

*Note: Each LANDO camp is identical.

Teacher Bio

All LANDO instructors have bachelor's degrees in science, education or a related field, as well as experience working with children. All of our teachers are first-aid and CPR certified, have updated background checks and TB tests, and go through an intensive onboarding process including LEGO engineering fundamentals and classroom management skills.

Eagles’ Beginning Robotics Camp

Description

This camp is designed to introduce your camper to the exciting world of robotics using LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3. Over the course of the camp, students will learn the basics of robotics, including programming, building, and testing their own robots. Campers will work with partners to complete a variety of fun and engaging challenges that will put new skills to the test. The programming environment will be based on the Scratch graphical language. This camp does not assume any familiarity with programming or LEGO MINDSTORMS.

Teacher Bio

Coach Warneke is the mother of six children, the five oldest of whom have participated on FIRST LEGO League (FLL) teams. She founded the robotics elective at RCE and taught it for the first three years and most recently has coached the RCMS FLL team for the last few years. Coach Warneke received her Bachelor's of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences from the UC Berkeley.  She will be assisted by two of her sons who were RCMS FLL team members and now student mentors to the team.

Eagles’ Advanced Robotics Camp

Description

This camp is intended for students that have taken the robotics elective at RCE or have equivalent experience. This camp will use LEGO SPIKE Prime sets and cover topics such as advanced line following algorithms, advanced attachment design, debugging techniques, designing a robot to be robust, My Blocks/tasks for code re-use, gyro sensors, and logic operations. Besides the Scratch graphical language, students will be introduced to programming the robot in the Python language. Campers will tackle actual missions from the 2023 FIRST LEGO League SUPERPOWERED season on the competition table as well as some custom missions like shooting a ball. Campers can also work on independent projects.

Description

Campers will learn the basics of baking (units of measurement, the difference between liquids and solids, etc. as well as discussing the science of mixing flavors and textures).   Campers will also write their own recipes (create, plan, develop a shopping list, etc.). Using age-appropriate tools, campers will slice/chop, measure, pour, stir, mix and of course EAT!! No oven needed.

Eagles’ Spanish Language Camp

Description

This camp is designed for those wanting to have fun learning the basics of Spanish.  Students will learn basic phrases, fun songs, colors, numbers and much much more.  The summer program will include learning the phrases for how to make tortillas and on the last day we'll make the tortillas together.  There will also be some wormy science including gummy worms, all in Spanish.  Open to students in Grades 2-6.  Sign up early to secure one of the 20 spots available.

Mrs. Elaine Mendenhall, an alumni of and former teacher at RCS, has taught various levels of high school, middle school and elementary Spanish for over 15 years.  She has a multiple subject teaching credential, a single subject Spanish teaching credential and a Masters in Education.
