What is/are your role(s) at Redwood Christian Schools?
I teach 2nd grade.
What do you love about Redwood Christian Schools?
I love that RCS really is a family. As educators, we have the blessing of partnering with parents to shepherd these precious children and come alongside their families from grades TK-12. I love my daily after-school chats with current parents, and I’m surprised whenever I am visited by “kids” who are now in high school or by their families.
Why do you like teaching at RCS?
I love that we are a family of RCS prayer warriors! Our staff prays together every morning, and I get the privilege to lead my students in prayers of petition and thanksgiving every morning to begin our day.
What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to shape the overall experience of students at RCS?
I have taught in a variety of educational settings including the farm fields of rural New Mexico, Sausalito, and Oakland, CA. These assignments have molded my heart and mind by continually reshaping and informing my teaching. My 12 years of teaching and ministry have equipped me to individualize my instruction and provide accommodations for all students with various learning styles and needs.
What sets RCS students apart from students in other schools?
RCS students are set apart from students in other schools because our ultimate goal as Christian school teachers is to teach the Gospel, impart Truth, and bring children to salvation in Jesus Christ, our Savior. Our students are challenged to grow their minds and hearts at RCS.
The RCS tagline is “the education you TRUST for the children you LOVE.” How do you accomplish this in your role at RCS?
Having two young children myself has impressed upon me empathy and understanding for working families who strive to be the best parent they can be for their child. Being a teacher at RCS is a ministry of my heart, which is a calling I take on wholeheartedly, treating each child and family as my own. After school, parking lot check-ins are the best! I am blessed to share the “roses and thorns” of a child’s day, build partnerships and often lasting friendships.
What do you want students to gain from having known you?
I want them to internalize Jeremiah 29:11 ESV: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” I share this verse with my students and families every year. I candidly share my own struggles I had as a 7-year-old mathematician, empowering students to laugh in the face of adversity and fall in love with learning! My students know that the God of the UNIVERSE loves them with His whole heart, and they can always come to me for a reassuring hug and encouraging prayer.
What is your favorite verse?
Ruth 1:16 ESV “But Ruth said, ‘Do not urge me to leave you or to return from following you. For where you go I will go, and where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God.’”
