What is/are your role(s) at Redwood Christian Schools?

I am an English teacher!

What do you love about your role(s) at RCS?

I’m fascinated by how students learn and grow. I love being able to be part of that in a place that honors God.

What sets RCS students apart from students in other schools?

Many of them are very insightful. Honestly, however, I haven’t worked with other high school students for years. I guess that I have noticed that RCS students seem better read, and more “aware” than students from most other schools, even when I’m listening to someone who’s an “honor student” elsewhere. Of course, I might be biased because of my own son and daughter!

How do you inspire your students?

I show kids where their strengths lie, and how challenges are opportunities.

What do you want your students to gain from having known you?

Nuanced thinking and discernment.

What is your favorite verse?

Isaiah 6:8 “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’”

Not to sound too much like an English teacher, but I love how this verse clearly shows that in some sense God’s people are objects of His, and yet still somehow make decisions to respond.
