What is/are your role(s) at Redwood Christian Schools?
AP Language, English 10, AAP English 9-10, MS Computer Lit, MS Keyboarding
What do you love about Redwood Christian Schools?
I’m fascinated by how students learn and grow. I love being able to be part of that in a place that honors God.
Why do you like teaching at RCS?
I met teachers from RCS, and thought, “Wouldn’t it be great to work with these people?” I had also enjoyed teaching high school Sunday School, and this made me wonder about teaching as a vocation.
What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to shape the overall experience of students at RCS?
I love seeing the humor in things, and often inject that into the curriculum. I love adding a bit of whimsy, yet I don’t lose sight of the goal.
What sets RCS students apart from students in other schools?
Many of them are very insightful. Honestly, however, I haven’t worked with other high school students for years. I guess that I have noticed that RCS students seem better read, and more “aware,” even when I’m listening to someone who’s an “honor student” elsewhere.
The RCS tagline is “the education you TRUST for the children you LOVE.” How do you accomplish this in your role at RCS?
By contacting and working with the parents and by giving students a second chance.
What do you want students to gain from having known you?
Thinking skills and discernment.
What is your favorite verse?
Isaiah 6:8a “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’” Not to sound too much like an English teacher, but I love how this verse clearly shows that in some sense God’s people are objects of His, and yet still somehow make decisions to respond.
