What attracted you (and your family) to minister at Redwood Christian Schools (RCS)?
I attended RCS from 7th grade through 12th grade and had an amazing experience. I didn’t want to pass up the unique chance to return to the place I was ministered to.
Tell us about your family and how they are looking forward to this new opportunity.
My husband and I are two years into marriage, and we are excited to minister to the Castro Valley community together. He works at 3 Crosses, we live in Castro Valley, and this truly is the community God has called us to. We are looking forward to what God is going to do through us.
How did God call you into teaching and what are your professional credentials?
I have always loved working with kids. I earned a degree in Liberal Studies/Elementary Education from Biola University in La Mirada, CA. After receiving my degree, I pursued a call to missions for 7 years in Ukraine, working specifically with children in an orphanage. It was there that God deeply solidified my love for helping children grow spiritually and emotionally. Upon returning stateside, I had the opportunity to teach and fell in love with helping children grow academically as well; I feel that RCS is definitely the place for ministry God has for me. I love the daily interaction with students and the distinct growth that I have the chance to witness and provide spiritual support in their lives.
What have been your experiences in Christian education prior to coming to RCS?
Outside of missions and program development overseas, I have spent the past two years teaching 2nd grade at a Christian elementary school here in the Bay Area.
Why do you think a Christian education is important for families to consider?
Having received a Christian education, I have experienced first-hand the impact it can have in a person’s life. The purpose of a Christian school is to dive deeper than simply helping a child become a contributing member of society. Christian education helps students become instruments in God’s kingdom work. Because children spend such a great deal of time in the classroom under the influence of a teacher, knowing that the teacher is going to support and encourage a walk with the Lord is the most important aspect and has eternal impact. Each subject is taught with biblical integration, which in turn builds a foundation for a child’s life that will go far beyond his or her years in school.
We know it’s early but what do you love the most about RCS so far?
Everyone at RCS has been so incredibly kind, helpful, and welcoming that it already seems like an awesome and supportive team.
How do you hope to make a difference in the lives of RCS students?
I hope to be a light that points the students towards Christ and a deeper love for Him that impacts every area of their lives. I love pushing students to see how much they are capable of doing and how gifted they are, but ultimately, I hope to see them love Jesus.
