RCS Senior Announced as Semifinalist in 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program

RCS Senior Announced as Semifinalist in 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program

RCS is pleased to announce that senior, Rohan John, is a Semifinalist in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program and has been offered the opportunity to continue in the National Merit Scholarship competition. To be a National Merit Scholar, the corporation considers students nationally, specifically their PSAT/NMSQT Reading, Writing and Language, and Math test scores, and proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating high school seniors.  Rohan has been recognized as one of these top high school seniors in California and the nation.

Each year, around 16,000 high PSAT/NMSQT scorers, representing less than 1 percent of the nation’s high school juniors, will qualify as semifinalists. RCS is pleased to recognize Rohan for his hard work in taking the highest-level courses, and dedication to his studies.  In addition, we are thankful for the support from the John family and the RCS faculty.

As seniors, the semifinalists can continue to compete for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $30 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for the National Merit Scholarships, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance, including submitting academic records; a recommendation (typically from the school principal); and an essay.

The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a not-for-profit organization that operates without government assistance, and was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Scholarships are underwritten by NMSC with its own funds by approximately 400 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the national scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
