RCS Hosts the 44th Basketball Classic Tournament in Home Gymnasium

For the first time in RCS history, the Annual Basketball Classic Tournament was hosted at their home gymnasium.  The Bruce D. Johnson Gymnasium was officially open for competition on November 24th.

“The response from visiting coaches was great,” said RCS Athletic Director, Jim Cleveland.

Two teams of the eight competing varsity boys teams came out strong at the 44th annual Basketball Classic Tournament.  In a nail-biting championship game, Marin Academy narrowed by Lick Wilmerding (San Francisco), clutching the title.

“It came down to the final minutes,” reports Cleveland, “it was a one point game and neither coach had any timeouts remaining.  The kids had to figure it out on their own.”

Marin Academy beat Lick Wilmerding in the championship game 52-51.  Taking third place over Gateway (San Francisco) was College Prep (Oakland).  St. Thomas More (San Francisco), Monte Vista Christian, International (San Francisco), and Redwood Christian also competed.

All tournament honors were given to players showing extraordinary performance and leadership during the tournament:

Tournament MVP – Sam Faber (Marin Academy)

All Tournament Honors, in no particular order:

Giovanni Maddalozzo (International)

Andrew Lee (Monte Vista Christian)

Mark De Tar (St. Thomas More)

Sovann Biard (Gateway)

Hamed Hekmet (College Prep)

Colin Lyman (College Prep)

Zach Johnson (Lick-Wilmerding)

Allen Wilson (Lick-Wilmerding)

Reid Little (Marin Academy)

Neil Ashe (Marin Academy)
