Mr. Hearne’s Recommended Resources:
We have all had that most embarrassing moment … the one where we just wanted to die. Embarrassment is an emotion that we can also learn from and embarrassing moments can be great teaching opportunities with our children. My first two recommended resources today offer tips and insight regarding how to help our children recover from their most embarrassing moments. First, based upon Psalm 25:2, “How Do You Handle Life’s Most Embarrassing Moments?” explains three possible negative reactions: anger, self-pity, and fear. Rather than giving in to one of these three reactions, the better option is to get over it! However, we all know that sometimes it’s much easier said than done to get over it. Therefore, my second recommended resource is, “How to Help Kids Deal with Embarrassment,” which offers some helpful ideas that we as parents can utilize to help ourselves or our children get over their embarrassment, such as don’t overreact, praise positive skills, and create perspective. And, as always, the third recommended resource is the Axis “Cultural Translator.”
