RCS Celebrates Retiring Teachers
This year, eight teachers will retire from RCS and seek the next calling God has on their life. Together, they average over 30 years in serving in Christian education! Dr. Hearne often quotes a profound educational truth in Luke 6:40, “A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.” As students, we become like our teachers because our teachers are training us how to think, reason, and put our studies into action. These teachers have done these things for the lives of countless RCS students and families. RCS welcomes current students and alumni to celebrate the following teachers as Dr. Hearne shares about each of them.
||Mrs. Blackburn, 24 years of steward leadership at RCS! From Dr. Hearne, “One of the things that I have always appreciated about Mrs. Blackburn is how she is always teaching students, whether in the classroom, the playground, the parking lot, or even at the grocery store. Mrs. Blackburn is also always encouraging students. I have been amazed at what has been produced in the elementary art class. You are involved, encouraging, and practice gradual release of responsibility. You show, they do, you model and help, they do, then they do amazing things on their own!”|
|Mr. Cagle & Mrs. Cagle – Both 29 years in Christian Education, 12 years at RCS! From Dr. Hearne, “Mr. and Mrs. Cagle have both been a welcomed edition to RCS for the past 12 years. Mr. Cagle revamped both the choir and the band, and Mrs. Cagle took ownership of our college counseling program to make it what it is today. Both have a strong love and appreciation of our great, yet not perfect country. Anyone who spends just a bit of time talking with Mr. and Mrs. Cagle will quickly come to realize that the RCS Core Value that resonates with both of them is to: To Generate a Spirit of Patriotism.”|
|Mr. Edington – 43 years in Christian Education at RCS! From Dr. Hearne, “From the day I met you in August of 2002, I have known that the Bible is very important to you. Therefore, I believe that the Core Value that you have modeled day in and day out of the classroom for the past 43 years has been: To Establish Christian Truth as a Guide for Life.”|
|Mr. Lapum – 23 years in Christian Education at RCS! From Dr. Hearne, “Mr. Lapum demonstrates a legacy of a life well lived: Love for God first, Love for Family second, Dedicated to ministry
at RCS third. He has kindness and gentleness in him like I have never seen before, and we have seen you modeling it for other people on so many occasions. Therefore, I believe that the Core Value Mr. Lapum has modeled day-in and day-out of the classroom for the past 23 years has been: To Instill Pure Morals in the Heart of the Student.”
|Mr. Limoges – 49 years in Christian Education, 3 years at RCS! From Dr. Hearne, “For the past three years, Mr. Limoges has consistently challenged students to be the very best that they can be in and out of the classroom. He has challenged students to perform, to grow, and to develop and refused to allow for students to settle for second best. Therefore, I believe that the Core Value Mr. Limoges models has been: To Maintain a High Academic Standard.”|
|Miss Orluck, 41 years teaching 1st grade at RCS! From Dr. Hearne, “Everyone who knows Miss Orluck knows the following is true: she is one of the most
consistent people they have ever met. Miss Orluck shines in the area of spiritual integration, whether it is seeking biblical solutions to problems in or out of the classroom as she consistently integrates God’s Word into the curriculum of life for her students and co-workers. That, and she has a deep passion for educational excellence that has earned her the respect of the parents and children in her 41 classrooms. Not to mention, I have never seen Miss Orluck frown!”
|Mrs. Sommers – 25 years in Christian Education! From Dr. Hearne, “Congratulations!!! Mrs. Sommers is an Enderlin Eagle, originally hired by RCS founding Superintendent, Mr. Enderlin in the 1979-80 school year. Several years later you entered into a sixteen-year hiatus to raise your family, but re-joined RCS again under the leadership of Mr. Johnson. Now in 2020, God has given you a new calling. Thank you for modeling Christ and teaching academics to the hundreds of students that God has called to be in your classroom.”|
Three additional RCS faculty and staff are also being called to other areas of ministry. RCS celebrates Mr. Kiefer, MS English Teacher, Mr. Blatchford, HS Science Teacher, and Mrs. Limoges, RCE Instructional Aide. Dr. Hearne said, “A walk begins with a single step. But when many steps are strung together, the walk becomes a journey whose process is much more important than the destination. While God has said that it is time to start walking again for these three, we recognize each step is a step of faith. They have been a tremendous part of RCS and we will miss them dearly, but we bless them in life’s next journey of making Ephesians 4:1-3 a reality.”
“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:1-3.
