Varsity Boys Basketball Starts BCL-E Playoffs

The Redwood Christian Boys Basketball Team finished 2nd behind St. Joseph Notre Dame in the Bay Counties League, East (BCL-E).  The top four teams (St. Joseph, Redwood Christian, Head-Royce, and Bentley) will compete in league playoffs February 15-17 at Head-Royce in Oakland.

On a Mission

The Eagles are set not only to compete well in the league playoffs, but to make their mark in the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs next week as well.  They conclude the regular season 18-7 overall and 9-3 in league play.  They have won seven of their past eight match-ups, and look to continue their streak in the BCL-E Semi Finals against Head-Royce.  The game is played at 8:00 pm at Head-Royce.

The Team to Beat

“St. Joseph Notre Dame was 4-7 at the end of December. The Pilots have won seven in a row and 13 of 15 since then” (reported originally on February 12 by mercurynews.com).  The Pilots end the regular season with a 17-9 overall record and 12-0 in league play.  While the Eagles have challenged the Pilots in season matchups, they struggled in the most recent game on February 6, falling 28-67 at St. Joseph’s home gym in Alameda.

Looking Ahead

On Sunday, February 18, the NCS selection committee will meet to rank teams who qualify for the section playoffs.  With a tournament championship and winning league record under their belt, the Eagles are expected to rank in a top seed, and they hope to host matches.  The Chabot College gymnasium has been reserved for potential NCS games next week.  Home court is given to 1) the league champion or 2) the higher ranked seed.  The Eagles have been preparing all season to compete well in NCS with a goal to make it to the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) state tournament, which begins March 7.  All tournament play (league, section, and state) are single-elimination contests.
