On Saturday, the Boys Varsity Basketball team faced a tough matchup against Saint Joseph Notre Dame of Alameda in the Bay Counties League East (BCL-E) League Championship game at Head-Royce.  The Pilots took a commanding lead from the start of the game, and the Eagles never really caught up.  A strong player rotation enabled the Eagles to mix up the strategy a few times, and the RCS fans were proud of their efforts. “One of my greatest joys is watching our students push forward when life brings them a huge challenge. While the boys had to face a team which is much better than they are, they continued to give it everything they had on Saturday night.  Although they lost the game, they won in the area of personal character,” said Mr. Bassard.

Following the game, Brendan Blakeley, Head-Royce’s Director of Athletics, presented both the BCL-E League Championship Trophy for winning the league championship and the Regular Season Perpetual Trophy to SJND for earning the best record during league play.  Individual honors were also awarded to four athletes.  Brandon Brown (Sr) and Alex Williams (Sr) from RCS and Adam Compost (Jr) from SJND were honored with All Tournament Selections.  The Most Valuable Player for the tournament was awarded to St. Joseph’s Cameron Ba (Sr).

The Eagles advance to the North Coast Section (NCS) tournament, earning the 4th seed.  They will host Hoopa Valley in the first round at Chabot College on Wednesday, February 21st, at 7 pm.  The Girls Varsity Basketball team also qualified for the NCS tournament and is seeded 14th.  The girls travel to Clear Lake on Wednesday for a first-round matchup at 7 pm.  If teams win the first-round game, play continues:

Quarterfinals, Saturday, February 24th
Semifinals, Wednesday, February 28th
Finals, Saturday, March 3rd
