Mr. Hearne’s Recommended Resources:
As parents, we want to keep our children safe, and yet tragedy continues to happen in the world around us. We want to help our children understand the tragedies that are taking place around us, but at the same time we need to protect their innocence. My first recommended resource contains advice for “Talking to Kids About Tragedy” and provides
guidance on how to discuss the recent tragedy in Texas. My second recommended resource is an article about how to specifically pray for the safety of our children using Scripture: “Praying for Protection Over Our Children.” As always the third resource is the “Axis Cultural Translator” to help keep you up-to-date regarding our culture.

Fabulous Learning
Measuring Up: My 6th graders were active learners estimating then actually
measuring different objects – including each other! Students had to critically think
to justify their answers as they went. ~ Miss Humphreys
Pumpkin Characters! Second grade students just finished their book report
focusing on a character in a fictional book. Students creatively decorated a
pumpkin to represent the character they wrote about on their report.
~ Mrs. Haserot
The Light Bulb Went Off: The most Fabulous Learning Experience last week
were 4th grade students’ argumentation as they debated whether or not one of
the light bulbs would light. They had to write their argument and explain why the
light bulb would not work based on previous lessons and evidence. ~ Mrs. Yip
New Drum Major! I started drum major lessons this week with our band’s new
drum major: Nathan Calvert (Freshman). What an interest he has taken in
learning to be our drum major leading our marching band! He will be in front of
the band at the upcoming Castro Valley Light Parade on Saturday, November
11, beginning at 5:30 pm.~ Mr. Cagle
Impact of Christians in Science: In my 8th grade Bible class my students
presented on different scientists who have not only contributed greatly to the
scientific community, but who were also outspoken Christians. ~ Mr. Wilcox
