Lady Eagles Fall in Three Game Net Battle

SF Waldorf moves on. The No. 3 seeded Wolverines from San Francisco Waldorf High School defeated our No. 11 Eagles in three games: 25-16, 25-22, and 25-13 on November 4 in a Division V bi-district playoff.

The Eagles trailed consistently in game one, but came out aggressively in game two. Their initial lead was challenged by kills from Wolverine outside hitter Talluah Froley, a senior committed to play at UCSB next year. The highly competitive contest was evenly played with long rallies until the Wolverines pulled ahead after a 22-22 score.  Froley sealed game two with an unassisted block.

In game three, the Redwood Christian showed another strong start behind the power hitting of sophomore, Aliyah Afoa.  After the Eagles fell behind, Coach Wilcox called a timeout. They were unable to regain the lead after that point, however, but put up a good fight until the end.  At game point, senior middle hitter Ify Nwebube regained Eagle possession with a kill, making the score 24-12. After a jump serve by senior libero Allison Lam, a short rally (including three consecutive Wolverine blocks), was thwarted and the final point was earned from an assisted block by Wolverine seniors Viola Wallace and Froley.

“They played well and fought hard against the best team we played this season,” comments Head Coach John Wilcox. Afoa dominated the match with 16 kills off 25 swings, 11 digs and 15 service receptions. Lam led a strong back line with 15 digs and 29 service receptions.

The Lady Eagles earned the 11th seed after securing third place in the Bay Counties League – East (BCL-E). They opened the tournament with an upset when they knocked off #6 seed St Vincent, in a marathon match last Tuesday in DeCarli Gym, Petaluma.

Redwood Christian ended its season with a notable  8-4 league record and 19-15 overall. The Lady Eagles were coached by John Wilcox and assistant coach Frank Largusa.
