How did God call you into teaching (if taught before), and/or what are your
professional credentials (or prior work experience)?
While working in my previous corporate position, I became pregnant with my second
child. During that pregnancy, God put it on my heart to go back to school for Early
Childhood Development. Over the past twenty years, I have had the pleasure of being a
preschool teacher, then promoted to an Assistant Director, finally the Director of
Children’s Services. During this time, I have worked with children from infants through
school age. A few years ago, the Lord opened the door for me to return to teaching,
which is my true passion.
What motivated you to become a teacher at Redwood Christian?
I was motivated to join the team at Redwood because of the teachers that my children
previously had while attending Redwood School. They were compassionate and
showed the love of Christ to my children. I am looking forward to doing the same and
sharing with my students how much God loves them and has created each of them with
a purpose and a destiny.
Tell us about your family and how they are looking forward to this new
opportunity.
My husband and I are parents to three boys, Jacob, Joel, and Nehemiah. Joel
graduated in 2019, and Nehemiah will be attending 8th grade in the fall. My family is
excited to see me doing what I enjoy the most.
What unique experience, talent, or interest do you bring to your classroom to
help shape your students’ learning experience?
I love the power of play. I believe that all children of any age can learn in an
encouraging environment.
What is something you want students to have gained after having you as their
teacher?
That my students would develop a love of learning, become problem solvers, and be
kind friends.
Do you have any other hobbies/interests outside of teaching?
I enjoy the outdoors with my family and friends.
How will a time you’ve been inspired shape your teaching or classroom
management?
I was inspired by my son’s 5th grade teacher. Despite being a teacher in the public
school, she was very creative and diligent in teaching the students about Christ. During
that year, this helped my son grow in character, and it changed the path of his learning
experiences. This showed me the difference a teacher could make in a student’s life. It
influences me to be consistent and positive in my classroom.
What is your favorite Bible verse?
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil,
to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me,
and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your
heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13 (ESV)
