Global Service, Joyful Heart
One of the RCS goals to #CelebrateRCS for our 50th anniversary is to connect with current RCS students and see what God has been doing in their lives and what they believe God is calling them toward their future. Dr. Hearne recently interviewed current RCS student, Rayah Miller, class of 2021.
This month’s theme verse is Ephesians 4:1-3, “I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Dr. Hearne asked Rayah to share what these verses mean to her.
Rayah shared, “These verses mean that the way you act and carry yourself should ultimately be pleasing to the Lord. If we call ourselves Christians, we need to act in a way that reflects the character of Christ. It is so important not to just talk about being a Christian, but actually put your words into action and allow God’s Word to make a difference in your life.”
What grade are you in and how long have you been at RCS?
I am in 11th grade and this is my third year at RCS.
List the gifts God has given you and explain how you have used them.
God has given me gifts of creativity and resourcefulness, a heart for people in need, and a love for traveling. These gifts and interests have led me to serve people in the United States, Mexico, and Kenya. One thing that I love about going on missions trips is how God has used the people I have served to grow and teach me. I always return from my trips feeling more whole and joyful.
Describe your favorite part about school outside of the classroom.
I enjoy all of the events that I’m able to share with my friends and as a whole school. Things like Christian Ministry team-bonding, school-wide events, and class socials are all some of my favorites.
Share your favorite RCS memory?
I don’t have a specific memory, but my favorite times at RCS are when our whole class/school comes together at spirit events- especially Homecoming Week.
What impact has the RCS faculty had on you?
RCS faculty members have been a significant part of the reason why I enjoy attending Redwood. I love that the faculty makes an effort to get to know me as a person and invest not only in my academic life, but also in my spiritual life. I can tell that my success as a whole person matters by the way the faculty strive to help me achieve my best.
How would you describe RCS to someone who doesn’t know anything about the school?
I would describe RCS as a small, private Christian school devoted to teaching and equipping students in all aspects of life. The student body is a sort of family where it is very easy to get involved and find your part.
What do you plan to do after high school?
Right now, I honestly don’t know! I do know college is in my near future, but I am praying and seeking the Lord’s guidance on where to focus my studies. I have so many areas that interest me, and I am open to where the Lord leads.
