From Pre-K to Back in the Bay

One of the RCS goals to #CelebrateRCS in or 50th anniversary is to connect with RCS Alumni and see what God has been doing in their lives since high school graduation.  Dr. Hearne recently interviewed RCS Alumni, John Breslow, class of 2015

As part of the interview, Dr. Hearne asked for John to share his thoughts on this month’s theme verse, Matthew 5:16, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”

John shared, “My home was recently hit by the power outages. My family was reduced to flashlights and candles to keep from stubbing our toes in the dark. Light is the only remedy when one is flushed in absolute darkness. In the same way, Christ’s light is the only source we have of bringing hope in this world.”

When did you begin attending RCS and what year did you graduate?

I attended starting in Pre-K and graduated in 2015.

Who were your favorite RCS Teachers?

In no particular order: Mr. Enns, Mr. Russell, Mrs. Suth, Mr. Gillette, and Mr. Hendren.

What activities did you participate in while a student?

My extracurricular activities included serving on various student councils; playing soccer, basketball, track & field; and being involved in the Improv Club and the Bull & Bear Economics Club.

As a student what did you love about RCS?

I particularly enjoyed developing relationships with my teachers outside of the traditional setting. It was refreshing to have class with a teacher one period and share a meal and conversation with him or her the next. Given Redwood’s intimate size, those relationships didn’t end as I would most likely have those teachers more than once a year in my academic journey.

What did you do after graduating from RCS?

Upon graduating, I attended Azusa Pacific University in SoCal, studying Business Economics, Humanities, and Computer Information Systems. Some highlights included a semester in Yosemite and back-to-back summer internships in China.

What are you currently doing?

I currently work for Peet’s Coffee at their Home Office as a financial analyst in their Retail/Wholesale division.
