Christian Academy Second Graders Raise Money for Children in Ethiopia
On May 22 at a special school assembly, the Second Graders from Miss Rachel Blessum’s class presented Obse Lubo of the East African Medical Relief Foundation with a check for $2,703 to buy library books for children in Nejo, Ethiopia, who do not have library books. Biftu Gimbi Elementary School and Jarso High School were the recipients of many books from Miss Blessum’s class and those who supported them. During their class project, the children learned about Ethiopia, and made presentations to all of the other classes.
Through change containers in each classroom and parents and grandparents catching the vision, the children were able to be a part of something much bigger than simply raising funds for library books. Miss Blessum stressed that “The act of giving is a blessing in itself, and no child is too young to learn that lesson. Every morning, my students prayed that God would give us $500 to share with Obse Lubo, and they were able to witness God multiplying that money into $2,700! My students now say all the time, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ We have definitely been blessed by this experience.”
