Erin McGrath, RCS class of ’98

One of the RCS goals to #CelebrateRCS in our 50th anniversary is to connect with RCS Alumni and see what God has been doing in their lives since high school graduation. Dr. Hearne recently interviewed RCS Alumni and current MSHS Assistant Principal, Miss McGrath, class of 1998.
As part of the interview, Dr. Hearne asked for Miss McGrath share her thoughts on this month’s theme verse 2 Timothy 4:1-2, “I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.”
Miss McGrath shared, “God’s Word is powerful. It has the power to change us. I can testify to the incredible ways God has used His Word to reprove, rebuke and exhort me! I’m so thankful for His leading and patience with me! I hope I can always be ready to share the grace and truth of God’s word, no matter the circumstances in my life with, the people around me. We all need Jesus, but we need the truth of who He is and not some made up version. It also is a challenge to know the Word of God. I can’t share it in any season, if i don’t live learning it. I hope my life is lived always ready for the hope of the Lord’s return and might He be pleased with me and how I lived my life for Him and that others might know Him. ”
Dr. Hearne: When did you begin attending RCS and what year did you graduate?
Miss McGrath: Began in Kindergarten in 1984 and graduated in 1998 (“Lifer”)!
Dr. Hearne: Who was your favorite RCS Teacher and why?
Miss McGrath: Oh come on… this does not feel fair to answer. So many. I will say, there was something about Miss Menke that motivated me more than most. She was always such a joy to be around. She was affirming, taught us about Amy Carmichael, and if we were really good, she invited the class to her home for an end of the year party. 🙂 All my teachers, truly, were a gift.
Dr. Hearne: What activities did you enjoy participating in while a student?
Miss McGrath: Loved sports – Basketball, Softball and Volleyball. My biggest highlight was the FCA club we started. I was also in Drama (lights!) and involved in class and executive councils.
Dr. Hearne: As a student what did you love most about RCS?
Miss McGrath: I loved the Christian environment. I loved that we had Chapel together and Bible class. I loved that I knew just about everyone at school. I loved that we had so many opportunities to be involved in so many things. I loved the family environment.
Dr. Hearne: What did you do after graduating from RCS?

Miss McGrath: Received my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Cal State, Hayward with a minor in Recreation. I was hired by Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) to run camps and retreats and then transitioned into teaching, first down in LA County, and then up here at RCS. In the proces, I also received my Masters Degree and Teaching Credential from National University. Just this past year, I became a foster parent and currently have a 17 year old.
Dr. Hearne: Why did you return to RCS as a teacher and now an administrator?
Miss McGrath: When my time in Southern California was coming to an end, RCS was hiring PE teachers and I applied! I was looking to come back to the Bay Area… little did I know that would mean coming back home to RCS as well. I am thankful to be a part of this ministry that impacted and shaped me so much. It looks a lot different… new campus, new gymnasium on campus, iPads, etc, but I’m so proud to be a part of this team.
