Follow God – Matthew 4:19

“And he said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” (Matthew 4:19 ESV)

In writing this short devotion, I did a Google search for “Redefining Life” books. The results were staggering even if some were repeated results … 10.7 million results. Truthfully, as human beings, we have an insatiable taste for life to be different and better. Good News! Two thousand years ago the God of the universe walked into the realm of humanity to redefine life for us. It was what He had decided would eventually have to happen for humanity to enter the kingdom of heaven. Jesus says in verse 17, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This is the redefining of life – turn to Jesus only.

Peter and Andrew were in the middle of their job, throwing out a net when Jesus called them to redefine their lives as his disciples. They listened to the call of repentance to turn to Jesus and to follow him to become “fishers of men.” They left everything and followed Jesus, immediately. They left the physical fishing duties to others to have their lives redefined and redeemed by Christ. They would forever be known as the disciples of Jesus and apostles. How are you defined by your children, family, friends, and co-workers? When people ask you what do you do, what will you tell them? May the Gospel of Jesus Christ redefine our lives.
