Carley Platt

Position: Middle School and High School Art Teacher

Email: CarleyPlatt@rcs.edu

How did God call you into teaching (if taught before), and/or what are your
professional credentials (or prior work experience)?

I have known I wanted to be a teacher ever since I took my first art class in high school.
Being raised in a Christian household, I have always believed in the mission to bring
others to Jesus. I was first moved to express my faith through art during my sophomore
year in college; I felt moved by the spirit to share my own spiritual walk through
narrative landscape paintings. I am now so glad to say that God’s plan for me is to
inspire students to creatively express their faith through their own art.

What motivated you to become a teacher at Redwood Christian?

The main thing that motivates me to be the art teacher at RCS is the ability to share my
faith and inspire faith in young minds through creating art.

Tell us about your family and how they are looking forward to this new
opportunity.

My newlywed husband and I have both decided to take a huge leap of faith by moving
to the Bay Area for better job opportunities for us both. We both feel that my teaching at
RCS will be a huge growing experience for our lives and our faith.

What unique experience, talent, or interest do you bring to your classroom to
help shape your students’ learning experience?

I am excited about sharing my love of the Lord with my students through class
experiences. I can’t wait to use my talents in painting, ceramics, and drawing to inspire
students to creatively express their faith.

What is something you want students to have gained after having you as their
teacher?

I want students to leave my class feeling like better artists than when they came in. I
don’t expect everyone to become the next Picasso but rather to have fun learning new
materials and how to express themselves and their spiritual walk.

Do you have any other hobbies/interests outside of teaching?

I love the outdoors and staying active. I and my husband’s favorite outdoor activities are
snowboarding, backpacking, and paddle boarding.

How do you plan to inspire students specific to your subject?

I plan to inspire students with my enthusiasm and love of art. With a little
encouragement, I know that all students can create things and get better at it through
practice and time.

What is your favorite Bible verse?

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13 (ESV)
