Why do our schools rank among the highest in the Bay Area?
Redwood Christian Schools is committed to providing an academically excellent, Christ-centered education and maintaining our legacy as an interdenominational school serving families from more than 130 churches and over 30 Christian denominations. Niche has ranked us as one of the most diverse private schools in California—a reflection of the rich community God has brought together here.
While academics and faith remain our top priorities, RCS also offers competitive athletics and comprehensive programs in the fine arts. Together, these commitments create a school environment where students thrive—spiritually, academically, and personally.
2025 Highlights
Academics - Our Fall 2025 MAP Growth results showed students at every grade level—from kindergarten through high school—performing above national norms in Math, Reading, and Language Usage, often by very wide margins. In the elementary grades RCS students scored 18–20 points higher in Reading and 9–19 points higher in Math than the national average.
For context, a RIT point is a measure of academic growth used by MAP, and differences this large typically represent a full year or more of learning gained ahead of students nationwide. These results reflect outstanding teaching, a strong and aligned curriculum, and the remarkable effort our students bring to their learning each day. Athletics - This year, every fall team that was eligible—at both the Middle School and High School levels—qualified for either league or section playoffs. That achievement speaks volumes about the development, competitiveness, and commitment of our coaches and student-athletes. Learn more about RCS Athletics
Fine Arts - Our Fine Arts program has over 100 middle and high school students participating in either choir or band. Our drama program is also growing, with expanding opportunities in plays and musical theater that allow students to develop their gifts, gain confidence, and shine on stage and behind the scenes. Hello! Welcome to Redwood Christian Schools (RCS). My name is Dr. Al Hearne II, and I am the Superintendent. I want to commend you for taking the time to research a Christ-centered education for your child(ren). Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with questions. We are here to help you as you decide which school is going to be influencing your child(ren).
RCS loves children and wants to see them reach their full potential. We are committed to being excellent educators, spiritual mentors, and responsible stewards. Furthermore, RCS has a rich history of providing students with the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in the future. We believe children should blossom as unique individuals created in the image of God as they discover their calling.
We seek to be in partnership with parents and their church in developing well-prepared children with the character and vision to meet their world with confidence. We invite you to call our District Office (510-889-7526) for more information, including a personal tour of our campuses and classrooms.
Redwood Christian Schools (RCS) is thankful for God’s continuing presence and provision. We are excited to begin our 55th year of providing a Christ-centered education which is able to equip students for daily living and eternal life.
I am excited to introduce this year's theme: “Made By God,” based upon Psalm 139:14, “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
This theme was prayerfully selected in light of the world our students are growing up in: a world that appears to be embracing what is artificially created. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is moving at a rapid pace. It can generate, analyze, and mimic human creativity with astonishing accuracy. But here is what it can never do: it can never be human. AI is not alive. It is not inspired. It does not carry the breath of God. Only people can breathe the breath of God. Only God can create something out of nothing. We are made by God. We are not artificial. We are not accidental. We are not disposable. We are handcrafted by God, the Creator of the universe. Unlike AI, which makes a best guess about what comes next, we are guided by God’s voice, God’s Word, and God’s design.
As a school, we will walk through the Bible to discover five elements of what it means to be “Made By God.”
MADE TO GROW: We were made with divine intention, created to grow in identity, wisdom, and maturity. This quarter grounds our students in the foundational truth that they are not random. They were formed by the hand of God with purpose and precision. We will explore what it means to grow as whole people, spiritually, emotionally, and intellectually. Through Scripture, students will be reminded that true growth begins with being rooted in Christ, guided by His Word, and shaped through discipleship in everyday life.
MADE TO LOVE: We were made to reflect God’s love in how we live, forgive, and relate to others. As image-bearers of the God who is love, we are called to love one another with compassion, humility, and faithfulness. This quarter focuses on the habits and heart of healthy relationships, including forgiveness, kindness, and unity. As we approach Christmas, we will look closely at the love of God revealed through Jesus, who was sent to us not because we earned it, but because He loved us first.
MADE TO STAND: We are equipped with courage, clarity, and conviction to stand in truth and walk in prayer. This quarter helps students understand how to live boldly without compromise. They will study the armor of God from Ephesians 6, discovering how each piece protects and prepares them to stand firm in a world filled with confusion and pressure. To stand is not to isolate or fight, but to remain grounded in truth, alert in prayer, and confident in God’s promises.
MADE TO ENDURE: We are called to finish strong, remain steady through trials, and stay faithful in difficulty. This final quarter brings focus to perseverance. Students will look to the example of Jesus, who endured suffering and rejection but never turned away from the Father’s will. They will see that endurance is not about pretending life is easy, but about trusting God in the middle of hardship. As the school year comes to a close, we will celebrate the beauty of finishing well and holding fast to our faith with hope.
MADE TO REST: Even in our stillness, God is at work in us. Rest is not laziness. It is sacred. In a culture that glorifies constant productivity, we pause to remember that rest is a command, not a suggestion. God Himself rested on the seventh day, not because He was tired, but because He was modeling a rhythm of renewal for His creation. Summer is an invitation to embrace that rhythm. It is a time to slow down, to reflect, and to receive. True rest reconnects us to the One who restores our souls. It prepares us for what comes next by grounding us in peace, not performance. When we rest in the presence of God, we are reminded that our worth is not in what we do, but in who we are, His beloved sons and daughters.
Each week, the Eagle Update will include a devotion to help your family grow together, learning about how we are “Made By God.” This is more than
a slogan. It is a declaration of identity and a call to formation. We are not accidents. We are not the sum of our achievements. We are not digital code.
We are sons and daughters of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We are “Made By God”… made to grow, to love, to stand, to endure, and to rest.
In Christ,
Al Hearne II, PhD
