What is/are your role(s) at Redwood Christian Schools?
I am a 9th grade Class Advisor. I am the Bible Department Head and teach Bible: 7th (Competing Worldviews), 9th (Biblical Foundations), 11th grade (Decision Making & The Will of God).
What do you love about your role(s) at RCS?
I get to see students begin to get excited about studying the Bible for the first time. They make the transition from not being able to understand the Bible very well to gaining confidence in utilizing the tools they learn in class to read memory verses “In Context.”
What sets RCS students apart from students in other schools?
RCS Students are surrounded by faculty who deeply care about them as whole people (spiritually, emotionally, socially, academically, etc.).
The RCS tagline is “INSPIRING FUTURES.” How do you inspire your students?
I love to teach students how to think critically, and give them opportunities to discover which ideas and worldviews are influencing and discipling them most. I give them the freedom to express their personal opinions, and then we collectively evaluate those thoughts against a Biblical worldview.
What do you want your students to gain from having known you?
I want students to learn that there is a huge difference between “knowing about God” and actually knowing Him relationally. Simply “believing” intellectually in Jesus is vastly different than beginning to follow and become like Him. I care far more about the person that each student is becoming than whether or not they get an A in my class.
What in Scripture motivates you in your role at RCS?
Helping students discover WHO Jesus is in all His Glory and Majesty.
Hebrews 1:3-4: “He [Jesus] is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.”
