How did God call you into teaching, and/or what are your professional credentials (or prior work experience)?
After a long career as a sportswriter for the Bay Area News Group, I felt the Lord leading me towards the teaching profession to share my writing skills at my alma mater.
What motivated you to become a teacher at Redwood Christian?
I know the impact that RCS had on my life as a student. Also, being an RCS teacher is sort of in my blood: My mother Rowena was a longtime teacher at Redwood Elementary. My brothers also graduated from RCHS.
Tell us about your family and how they are looking forward to this new opportunity.
My wife Laura was an aide at Redwood Elementary in the 1990s and is excited about this new opportunity for me.
What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?
I was a longtime employee in the private sector for a media company. I understand the challenges and stresses that accompany working under tight deadlines and can help students with this. I also know how important the skill of writing can be in a career and I want to encourage that skill in students.
Do you have any other hobbies/interests outside of teaching?
I love studying the Bible, and I also love many types of sports.
Our tagline is “Inspiring Futures.” How will a time you’ve been inspired shaped your teaching?
I remember the positivity of my favorite RCS teachers during my time there, and I aim to follow that direction in how I approach students.
