How did God call you into teaching, and/or what are your professional credentials (or prior work experience)?
When I was in college, I started off as a Business major, but wasn't too interested in the classes I needed to take to graduate. I switched my major to Education after a couple of years and almost instantly became more interested and passionate about my classes. The true sign after switching my major was I had plenty of hands on teaching experience through classes during my degree, and the first class I taught it felt natural and it was a sign to me that I was meant to be a teacher.
What motivated you to become a teacher at Redwood Christian?
In the last 4 years, I have experienced teaching at 10 different schools, I have taught at both public and private schools, and it made me understand what I really like at a school. Also, once I started coaching at Redwood Christian this past year I have absolutely loved the people I've gotten a chance to work with as well as the students I have been able to coach. As an alumni, I am excited to see familiar faces and continue to work alongside with them.
Tell us about your family and how they are looking forward to this new opportunity.
My family is extremely supportive and looking forward to this opportunity. My mom is also a teacher, she currently is a substitute, but both of my parents and other relatives are excited for me to begin this new chapter and to see me grow in this profession.
What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?
I love sports! Growing up I tried playing multiple sports, I never really stuck with one but tried many of them out. I have also helped out at many camps, working as coaches assistants at sports camps, to being a counselor, gym games and archery instructor, as well as being a coach and a Physical Education teacher the last two years.
Do you have any other hobbies/interests outside of teaching?
I love animals, especially dogs. I love finding new and exciting places to go in the area, whether it is hiking or a new restaurant, and I love going to escape rooms and solving puzzles.
Our tagline is “Inspiring Futures.” How will a time you’ve been inspired shaped your teaching?
One thing that has inspired me to teach has been the experience teachers gave me when I was in school. One specific memory was one of my Physical Education teachers and coaches when I was a Senior said to me, "One day, you will come back and work as a teacher and coach." At that time, as a senior, thinking I would go into Business I thought it was crazy, but here I am now, 8 years later coming back to Redwood Christian to teach and coach.
