How did God call you into teaching, and/or what are your professional credentials (or prior work experience)?
I am joining RCS after nearly five years at a public relations agency. During my time there, I worked with 20+ tech and healthcare companies to craft and refine their external communications and tell their stories to major business and trade publications.
What motivated you to become a teacher at Redwood Christian?
I was looking to move into a position that allowed me to contribute more to my local community, while at the same time I missed mentoring high schoolers, as I previously volunteered with my church’s youth group. Ultimately, I felt that God was leading me to take on a new role that would have a greater impact for His Kingdom and that would also be more meaningful to me!
Tell us about your family and how they are looking forward to this new opportunity.
My family has been incredibly supportive as I’ve moved into this new position! Making a career change can be nerve-wracking, and they have commended me for being bold and trying something new. Many of my friends have also been encouraging and told me that they believe this is the right path for me to follow.
What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to your classroom to help shape the learning experience of your students?
I am a big people-person and place a high-priority on developing relationships and community with others. One of my goals is to ensure that students feel cared for and are comfortable asking for help in my class. I also boast some excellent copywriting skills from my PR days, and I truly enjoy taking a written draft and transforming it into an excellent paper (perhaps to the shock of some!).
Do you have any other hobbies/interests outside of teaching?
Yes, many! I enjoy hiking, reading, climbing, gardening, yoga, and drinking tea. Although, I often tell others that my favorite hobby is people, and I love spending time with my friends and family. I also co-lead a young women’s Bible study at my church, which has helped me grow as a leader and curriculum builder.
Our tagline is “Inspiring Futures.” How will a time you’ve been inspired shaped your teaching?
I have been inspired by many great novels that have contributed to my love of reading, writing, and story analysis. I hope to bring that love of learning into my classes and help students become invested in the stories they read and uncover the meanings behind them.
