How did God call you into teaching (if taught before), and/or what are your
professional credentials (or prior work experience)?
God has always put it upon my heart to work with children. My passion for working
with students led me to obtain my Liberal Arts degree at Sacramento State,
emphasizing teaching. I then pursued working in the Castro Valley School District
as a paraprofessional working in Response to Intervention (RTI) and Resource
(Special Education) for around nine years. Through this experience, I understood
the many facets of different grade levels working with curriculum, teachers,
behavior, learning how to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs), setting
accommodations, and much more. I felt that God was tugging at my heart to pursue
a teaching credential. Through much prayer and consideration, I decided to pursue
higher education at Brandman University. Here I finished my credential classes and
received a Masters in Education.
What motivated you to become a teacher at Redwood Christian?
The motivation behind my becoming an RCS teacher is the school’s core values
and what they stand for. As a Christian, I do not want to compromise my beliefs to
fit into a school that rejects God. I look forward to working with students this year.
This year will be an adventure as I will learn from my students as much as they will
learn from me.
Tell us about your family and how they are looking forward to this new
opportunity.
My mom is rejoicing in heaven at what I accomplished. She had wished this for me
for a long time. The rest of my family is excited and cannot wait for me to thrive as a
teacher.
What unique experience, talent, or interest do you bring to your classroom to
help shape your students’ learning experience?
I am a kinesthetic and visual learner, so I love hands-on learning and visuals that
motivate students to learn. I desire students to understand the “why” behind learning
and why God expects us to do everything in excellence. I want my students to have a
growth mindset that aligns with how God sees us.
What is something you want students to have gained after having you as their
teacher?
I pray that students will understand how much I care and love them and see them as
little image-bearers of God. I desire that my walk with Christ and His character shines in
me that my students will want to emulate and choose to follow after Christ.
Do you have any other hobbies/interests outside of teaching?
I have several interests outside of teaching. I love to draw and especially draw
characters. I also love to hike or walk. By far, my favorite pastime is in the company
of my nieces (one is two and the other is eight months). I will read, watch Storytime
and engage in movement through GoNoodle with them. I love to watch them as
they grow and develop at each stage of life.
How do you plan to inspire students specific to your grade level?
As students get inspired about their future, I plan to be inspired for mine. I plan to
be inspired by my students and learning and growing from colleagues. Throughout
the process, I will learn how God wants me to be as a teacher, and I plan to grow
and develop my classroom teaching and management that fits into the kind of
teacher God desires me to become.
What is your favorite Bible verse?
“… fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you,
I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 (ESV)
