What is/are your role(s) at Redwood Christian Schools?
I teach 8th grade bible, 8th grade physical science, and 7th grade life science. I also coach girls varsity volleyball and middle school boys volleyball.
What do you love about Redwood Christian Schools (collectively)?
The thing I love most at RCS is the support from the entire staff. Whether it is the administration, fellow teachers, or support staff, everyone is willing to step in and help in times of need. I also appreciate the fact that I have the freedom to teach students about the wonder of God’s creation.
What sets RCS students apart from students in other schools?
I find RCS students to be respectful and open to correction. RCS students also seem to have an excellent feeling of community. I don’t see as much division amongst classes and individual groups as I do in the public realm.
How do you inspire your students?
I think it is very important to build trust with my students. I try to do this by treating each and every student with respect. I also think it is important to give students opportunities to correct their mistakes both academically or behaviorally.
What do you want your students to gain from having known you?
I truly hope they remember having fun, learning important life lessons, and have gained a deeper understanding of God’s Word. I try to show students through both my life and storytelling that as Christians we are fallible, but that God is always there to accept us and help us get back on the right track.
What in scripture motivates you in your role(s) at RCS?
I love the fact that God is always with us through the good and the bad. Romans 8:28 is one of many favorite verses. It reminds me that no matter what I’m going through if I put my reliance in God and His Word, and not myself or other outside influences, that things will turn out the way He wants.
Romans 8:28 “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[a] for those who are called according to his purpose.”
