What is/are your role(s) at Redwood Christian Schools?

RCS is a school founded upon the Word of God.  Our mission is to provide a Christ-centered education. Therefore, Christ must permeate everything we do.  As Superintendent, I am responsible to make this a priority in all of our efforts.

What do you love about Redwood Christian Schools?

God has faithfully called Godly, passionate, and excellent educators to our classrooms.  RCS is the best community-oriented support system for today’s students.

What motivated you to serve at Redwood Christian?

I always said, “I’ll never be a teacher.”  I had one plan for my life that ran opposite to God’s calling for my life. I planned on being a Biblical scholar and writing technical commentaries about the Word of God. After graduating from Fuller Theological Seminary, I applied at RCS to teach Bible to gain some practical experience as a Bible teacher.  My plan was to teach at RCS for two or three years and then move on to “more important” ministry.  Much to my surprise, during my first two years at RCS, God changed my heart and not only did I fall in love with teaching, the desire to be a Biblical scholar was changed to being a mentor for middle school and high school students.  I came to realize that there is no such thing as a “more important” ministry.  Serving God where He has called is the most important ministry that a person can do.

What do you feel is the significance of your role at RCS?

Being the RCS Superintendent means that I get to be an ambassador for Christ in every area of life.  I get to speak in people’s lives and point them to the truth of the Gospel message.  I cannot ever separate myself from my ministry.  Everywhere I go and everything that I do is representing my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and my ministry, Redwood Christian Schools.

What is a unique experience, talent or interest that you bring to shape the overall experience of students at RCS?

I have had a life-long love of technology, having purchased my first computer when I was in the third grade.  I tend to be an early adopter.  My love of technology has helped to shape what we call iLearn@RCS, the school’s iPad initiative and the overall direction of how we use technology at RCS. iLearn@RCS is one of the best implemented 1:1 programs in Christian schools. We teach students that their iPads are educational tools to help them learn.

What sets RCS students apart from students in other schools?

RCS is filled with amazing students.  They take their current calling of being a student seriously and are learning to the best of their abilities.  They live up to the high expectations for academics and conduct. They willingly serve each other and the community.  They are by no means perfect, but when a mistake is made, they work to fix the mistake and make things right.

The RCS tagline is “the education you TRUST for the children you LOVE.” How do you accomplish this in your role at RCS?

I accomplish this in three predominate ways:  I have to make sure we hire dedicated Christians who love children and love education.  I am also responsible for overseeing the implementation of the very best curriculum from TK through 12th.  Finally, I promote campus culture where students have fun and love to come to school.

What do you want students to gain from having known you?

God has a calling on your life, and He is preparing you today for the greatest ministry that you will do in the second half of your life.

What is your favorite verse?

Romans 12:1-2 ESV  “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
