God is Creator! Only God has created something out of nothing. Before time began, there was God. As we learn from Genesis 1:1-2a, God decided to create, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep." Before God created "the heavens and the earth," there was only God. Beginning in Genesis 1:3, God spoke His creation into existence. In Genesis 1:1-2, we find our purpose as God's people. God created us!

According to A.W. Tozer, "Behind all previous matter, all life, all law, all space and all time, there is God" (Fiery Faith). Why do we exist? Because God created us. God didn't have to create; God chose to create. Creation is, therefore, the expression of God's nature, and we learn God's nature through His attributes. Tozer says, "God's attributes are not God; that is, I say that God is self-existent, but that's something I posit about God - that isn't God. I say that God is holy, but holiness is not God ... an attribute of God is something that we can know about God" (Attributes of God).

We know that God is eternal (Psalm 90:2, Isaiah 57:15, Revelation 1:8). These verses show that God exists outside of time and has always been and will always be. They remind us that God is the timeless Creator of everything.

We know that God can never change (Malachi 3:6, James 1:17, and Hebrews 13:8). God did not need his creation because God cannot change. Why? When something changes, it gets better, it gets worse, or it gets different. God cannot be any better, God cannot be any worse, God cannot be any more different. Why? Because God is eternal.

We know that God is perfect (Matthew 5:48, Psalm 18:30, Deuteronomy 32:4). God is the highest example of perfection, and nothing else is as perfect as Him. This idea also helps us understand that God made and keeps the world going.

We know that God is holy (Isaiah 6:3, Leviticus 11:44, 1 Peter 1:16). These verses show how the Bible teaches that God is holy and completely separate from anything impure or sinful. He deserves our deep respect and worship.

Creation is the expression of God's nature. God spoke the world into existence, from nothing to everything, giving people their purpose: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. This idea emphasizes that the most essential aspect of life is a loving and obedient relationship with God.

God chose to create the universe and everything in it. The act of God creating is a powerful expression of God's nature and attributes. As you reflect on these truths, how does the knowledge that God is Creator impact your daily living?
