God Is Truth! God’s word is absolute truth. God’s word is a moral absolute. God leads and teaches in three primary ways: through the Bible, prayer, and wise counsel.
Psalm 25:5 reads, "Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all the day long.” The Psalmist here was praying to God. What role does Jesus play in our salvation?
When I think about “God is Truth” and salvation, my mind immediately goes to John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” The larger context of this verse is John chapters 13-17, where Jesus is preparing his disciples for his betrayal, death, resurrection, ascension, and second coming. Specifically here, in John 14:1-4, Jesus tells his disciples that he will be leaving to prepare a place for them in his Father’s house and that they “know the way” to where he is going. In verse 5, Thomas says Jesus, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” Jesus replies in verse 6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” What role does Jesus play in our salvation today? Jesus is “the way” of our salvation!
Jesus is “the way!” Jesus is not blazing a trail for others to follow. Jesus is not merely leading the way to salvation. Jesus himself is the way of salvation. Why? Because he is “the truth” and “the life”. Jesus is “the truth” because he is the supreme revelation of God. Throughout John, Jesus is identified as the son of God (John 1:34, 3:16, 10:36, and 20:31). Throughout John, Jesus is identified as God (John 1:1, 1:14, 10:30, and 20:28). Therefore, Jesus is “the truth” because God is truth (Exodus 34:6, 2 Chronicles 15:3, Psalm 31:5, and 1 Timothy 2:4). Jesus “the life” because only through his death and resurrection can a person receive eternal life (John 3:16). Only through believing in Jesus can a person live and “never die” (John 11:25-26). Jesus is “the life” because the life of God resides in him (John 1:1, 1:18, 20:28). Only Jesus has life in himself (John 5:26), and through belief in him, a person receives eternal life. We can make such a profession today only because Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life!” Because Jesus is “the way,” only he can say, “No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6b).
Romans 10:9-10 explains how a person accepts eternal life, “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes and is justified, and with the mouth, one confesses and is saved.” Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior by confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in your heart that God raised him from the dead?
