Jack Welch Most Inspirational Christian Athlete
To be considered for this award athletes must display an exemplary Christian testimony on and off the field; must be an accomplished athlete in two or more varsity sports and must maintain a 2.5 g.p.a.
The Inspirational Christian Athlete is the accomplished athlete who integrates his her highly skilled and expert athleticism with an evident testimony of his/her love and commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ. This award should not be given to average or good athletes, whose personality and temperament make them very likeable and easy to coach, because they are so submissive and compliant to authority. Nor should the award be given to the outstanding athlete whose lack of personal control and overt intensity as a player make them consistently disrespectful and self-centered toward opponents, officials and authority. This athlete impels teammates to higher levels of athletic excellence. The Inspirational Christian Athlete’s outstanding play and consistent Christian testimony is most influential to his/her team’s performance, both spiritually and athletically, to achieve its full potential to honor the name of Christ by the style of the team’s play.
Jack Welch who graduated from Redwood Christian in 2004 was an outstanding Cross Country and Track Athlete. Jack was the recipient of our Outstanding Senior Athlete and Most Inspirational Christian Athlete during his senior year. He holds the school records from the 400 through the 3200 races in Track. In cross country he was two time league champion; two time CCS champion, and Two time Division V All- State. Jack ran the all-time best for Redwood marks on every cross country course he ever set foot on. Jack was a strong Christian who was fiercely competitive yet displayed a genuine humility. After enduring a long physical battle due to injuries sustained in a serious car accident, Jack went home to be with the Lord September 27, 2006.
