2019-20 Elementary Student Citizen: Carter Strange

The RCS Elementary Student Citizen of the Year is Carter Strange. The Elementary Student Citizen is awarded to a 5th grade student who shows leadership and ethics, excellent communication skills, problem solving and conflict management abilities, and community and global citizenship.  Carter has been an important and valuable student at Redwood Christian Elementary, especially in the 5th grade class this year.

Carter is a quiet, but hard-working student. He is observant, kind, helpful, and a friend to everyone. As our class “IT Guy,” Carter was responsible for managing the class iPads all year. This included preparing the iPads each morning so they were ready and accessible to his classmates for the day. In addition, when students had technological issues with iPads, Carter was our first line of defense.  He often saved his teachers and RCE Assistant Principal Miss Sinisi valuable teaching time by solving many small problems. Then, every afternoon, Carter made sure that the iPads were put away in their assigned spots and plugged in to charge so they were ready to go in the morning. In addition to technology, Carter also helped manage the classroom library.  This included checking in books and re-shelving books with a small team of other students.

While the 5th grade class was blessed to have many helpful students this year, Carter stands out for his intuition and thoughtfulness. Carter will help as needs arise without being asked and often anticipated what was needed. Whether it was helping to pass out or collect papers, help prepare materials for science experiments, or making himself available to help his classmates in various ways, Carter stepped in quietly, attended to tasks/issues when he could help, and moved on without drawing attention to himself.  The Redwood Christian Schools administration, faculty, and board are so proud of Carter’s leadership, faithfulness, and a positive attitude this year. Congratulations!
