Devotional Thought:
Luke 10:27 is the perfect summary of the 10 Commandments in Exodus 20:1-19. The first four commandments (Exodus 20:3-11) are concerned with how our love for God is demonstrated. These four commandments are summarized in Deuteronomy 6:4-5, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your might.” The last six commandments (Exodus 20:12-17) are concerned with how we love our neighbor and are summarized in Leviticus 19:18, “You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.” We must first love our God with all of our being before we even begin to truly love our neighbor. The more we practice loving God, the more we will be able to love our neighbor as our self.
